Chioggia the seaside village
There is a salty scent that tells everything, even before the words. It is that of Chioggia, the "Little Venice": a village where the lagoon dictates the times, the colorful boats sway along the canals and life flows to the rhythm of the sea and its fishermen.
Here the connection with water is so authentic that it has become literature: among these streets Carlo Goldoni set "Le Baruffe Chiozzotte", portraying the voices and squabbles of seafarers. And even today that comedy continues to live on, recited every day by its truest protagonists: the Chioggiotti.
Chioggia is one of the 40 islands of the Venetian lagoon, and its historic center holds a rare charm, something magical waiting to be discovered.
The visit begins along Corso del Popolo, overlooked by the baroque church of Sant'Andrea with its Romanesque bell tower, the church of San Giacomo and the Gothic oratory of San Martino, one of the most precious buildings in the city, up to the Duomo, a masterpiece by Baldassare Longhena.
We continue along the Canal Vena, the most picturesque corner of the village, where the Antico Granaio and the Pescheria are reflected in the water. The grand finale is Ponte Vigo, elegant overlooking the lagoon: the last look before taking Chioggia with you.
