Padua "Basilica of Saint Anthony and Botanical Garden"

In the fourteenth century Padua was an open-air laboratory: a city which, with its painters, contributed to rewriting the figurative language of all of Europe. Six centuries later, those masterpieces are still here waiting for you.

His Fourteenth Century Fresco Cycles are inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List: an extraordinary cross-section of the art and society of Padua in the Middle Ages. The guided tour starts from the Palazzo della Ragione, the largest hanging hall in Europe. Here you will be surrounded by around 500 astrological-themed frescoes, commissioned by the Municipality in the 14th century, which completely cover the walls of the large room.

We continue among the liveliest squares of the city: Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza della Frutta, up to the ancient University (external) and the historic Caffè Pedrocchi, the "café without doors" symbol of Padua.

Grand finale at the Botanical Garden, the oldest university garden in the world still in its original location: founded in 1545, it is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Among the flowerbeds of its circular garden, with rare and centuries-old plants, you will discover the other face of Padua's genius, the scientific one, an oasis of greenery where, five centuries ago, knowledge took root.
